Owen Young’s “Three” is the third chapter of his four-part Muddy River album series, offering a fresh departure from the themes of previous releases. Born out of the frustrations and isolation of the pandemic, “Three” explores love, societal division, and introspection in three very distinct tracks. Each song tells its own story—personal, reflective, and bold.
The opening track, "Voices In The Dust," sets a calm, almost nostalgic tone, with Young’s delicate vocals carrying the weight of emotional reflection. This track contrasts sharply with the second piece, "Runnin’ Down The River," where the tempo picks up, driven by energetic instrumentation and rich melodies. Its upbeat nature brings a sense of release and defiance.
However, it’s the closing track, "That Could Have Been You," that truly shines. At over seven minutes, it feels more like a short story than a song, unfolding slowly with gentle musical accompaniment.

Overall, “Three” is a powerful, introspective EP. The songs are deeply personal but have a universal relevance, making it an engaging listen. Owen Young succeeds in creating an album that is both raw and beautifully composed, leaving listeners eagerly anticipating the final part of Muddy River.
