Judith Owen steps into “Inside Out” with the kind of warmth that makes a song feel like a conversation between the heart and the soul. The New Orleans inspired track, co-written with Grammy Award winning artist Jamison Ross and featuring the Tonya Boyd Cannon Choir, blends soul, gospel, jazz and R&B into a joyful reflection on self-discovery and choosing to live fully.
From the opening invitation, “Say something, be someone and start living your life,” Owen sets the tone. This is music about taking ownership of who you are, not waiting for someone else to provide the answers. “Your mama can’t help you, your papa won’t tell you,” she sings, before arriving at the song’s central instruction: “All you got to do is live inside out.”

That phrase captures the personal evolution Owen says inspired the song. She describes “Inside Out” as a reflection of who she has finally allowed herself to become, shaped by finding happiness, hope and compassion during difficult times. The celebratory New Orleans spirit comes through naturally, especially with the choir adding gospel weight and communal energy.
The musicianship keeps the track moving. Owen handles piano and vocals, with Ross on drums, David Torkanowsky on organ, Lex Warshawsky on bass, Kevin Louis on cornet, Ricardo Pascal on saxophone and David Blenkhorn on guitar. Tonya Boyd Cannon is joined by Raven Growe, Sharandall Lewis, Bernard McPherson, Cherylynn Mitchell, Dewayne Murphy, Ciara Reed, Donté Smallwood and Sandriahn Smallwood on choir duties.
Filmed at Fish Pot Studio in New Orleans in May 2026, the accompanying visual was directed, shot and edited by Josh Bagnall, with production led by Batou Chandler and Elsa Kern.
Taken from Suit Yourself, now past one million streams, “Inside Out” is Owen choosing joy in song, and inviting everyone else to do the same.
